Aftercare

After getting a tattoo, it's important to take proper care of it to ensure it heals properly. Below are my recommendations for healing your new tattoo.

The Step by Step

After getting your tattoo, I will put on a generous amount of aftercare cream and protect it with saran wrap. Please keep the wrap on for a minimum of 1 hour, max of 3 hours.

Wash your hands before touching your tattoo. Gently remove the wrap and wash with a gentle soap (one for sensitive skin is always good) or tattoo soap and luke-warm water. Do not use a soap bar, a soap with heavy perfumes or exfoliants.
After washing the tattoo, pat dry with a paper towel and leave for the rest of the day/overnight.

The next morning, wash your tattoo the same way you did the day before. Then with clean hands apply a very thin layer of aftercare cream to your tattoo.

Do this a minimum of twice a day. I recommend doing this process for its first week.
After a week you can reduce the amount of time youre applying cream if your tattoo seems to be less dry. This will depend on your skin type, amount of work done on the tattoo etc.

What To Expect

  • The first day may have excess plasma/ink on top of the skin after you remove the wrap.

  • Tattoos being tender for their first few days is fairly normal. Some redness is normal.

  • Dryness and flaking skin after a few days is normal too. Please do not pick at your tattoo no matter how tempting. The skin will fall off naturally. Do not exfoliate.

  • Your new tattoo can be sensitive in the shower, be sure not to make the water too hot. Think of putting your fresh sunburn in a hot shower. Ouch!

  • The tattoo being itchy is it healing. Please do not scratch it as it can cause infection, irritation or ink to leave the tattoo.
